I know what you meant. But heck, now that you've mentioned it ... let's look forward to '08 as well.

285/30 R6 with 10" rim and only slight swingarm scuff on some tracks, fronts use 245 on 8" rim with no issues.

The set up I used with the hoosiers was 225"s on the front. You don't need 245's on the front. The difference is only a 1/2 inch and its better aerodynamically. The 225's in the front will help reduce understeer. The rears you can run 275's
Make sure you role front and rear fenders and you may need spacers on the rears

Default tire sizes

225s reduce understeer? 245 should help reduce understeer. I guess it goes to show everyone likes there setup a little differently. How would a smaller front tire reduce understeer? If you want to reduce unersteer consider the larger front tire.

Maybe the 225 works better on an 8" wheel than the 245s. I am running the 245s on 9" wheels.

Yes, I had the same question ... but Ronnie is so fast, I thought it was probably better to just note that he runs 225s on the front and leave it at that.

I think Larry is on the right track. I think to get the benefit of the 245 you need at least a 8.5" rim.

I am going to run the 225/40/17 and 275/40/17 Hoosier on 7 and 9s for the first time in a few weeks

1. Does I need to change the stock springs to run them?

2. Can I change the spring to Something like turbos(reds) without changing my shocks for now.(Budget)

3. If I need spacers in the rear, what is the standard size needed, (SO I can get them ordered and on the way)

Thanks

This is true ,the front rim size(8's) are better suited for the 225.Also less tire role.It worked well for me.The 225's are also a little less money.
More grip on the front wheels means more understeer to me.The reality is you can make sway bar adjustments to compensate for under/oversteer.
Try them both and see what you like.
my 2 cents

I'll take a stab at some of your questions. First, I think a 7" rim is too narrow to run a 225 Hoosier. Second, in my opinion, the amount of acceptable rubbing, on the inside/outside, is none. There are a lot of variables that will impact what size tires will fit your car ... spring rate, camber, offset, speeds, tracks, driving ability and rolled fenders come to mind immediately. 275 rears is a relatively aggressive set-up ... and I think you are right to question whether stock springs are going to work. My guess would be that most guys running 275s are not running stock springs and have a fair amount of camber etc. And there is no standard size spacer ... that will depend on your offsets .
I think you're on the right track to be asking questions (obviously since that's what I've done here). Hopefully someone with stock springs will come on and address that with first hand knowledge. Personally, I try to to re-create the wheel (pun intended) when it comes to questions like tire fitment ... it's a lot easier and cheaper to just ask questions. But you'll have to do some trial and error in all likelihood. Also, you might consider calling Bob Woodman who I have found very helpful and knowledgeable.
Hope some of this helps.

Don't forget about solid bushings. You cannot run these wide tires without them. I have about 1/4" of space to the outside fender lip, and they don't rub, ever. Stock springs+stock shocks+stock fenders=narrow tires.
