Talking dailysportscar.com LeMans GT Class Test Day Predictions

From the Dailysportscar.com website about Le Mans GT Predictions for May 5th Test day.

Luca Riccitelli (Seikel),Andrea Montermini(JMB Ferrari)and Lucas Luhr(Racers Group) to go hell for leather for fastest in class, possibly under 4:10 (track unchanged) or 4:15 on the revised layout. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

It’s going to be a steady start, then faster and more furious as the hours pass. Let’s hope it’s a dry day, and a quick and safe one. And perhaps those added times for the new track layout will be over estimates of what it will take to get through the new sweepers quickly.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the new link. Now my day will be even less productive. (I figure you already know about Totalmotorsport.com).

What are the changes to the Le Mans track?

thanks

Mike,

The change to the track this year are to the downhill section that goes from the Dunlop Bridge to The Esses. In previous years, this was a straight. For this year, the track has been revised so that right after the Dunlop Bridge, there is a sweeping "S" curve that goes left, right, left before entering The Esses. This was done to accommodate the motorcycle racers who use the track's shortened Bugatti Circuit. Apparently, the downhill straight followed by the right-hander that took riders off the Circuit of the 24 Hours (and onto the Bugatti Circuit) was deemed too dangerous. Some may remember that similar concerns were at work when revisions were made in the uphill stretch of track that leads to the Dunlop Bridge, thus resulting in the abomination that is the "Dunlop Chicane".

thanks Bob

you'd think the ACO would make the 24 hr race the priority and figure out how to make the motorcycle race safe without compromising the sportscars.
