Post What would you buy from your dealer?

Just got my $100 off certificate from PCNA (for parts purchase of $200 or more.) Now I'm trying to think what my 944 turbo s racecar needs that only a dealer can supply....should cost close to $200 for maximum benefit...should be something I couldn't buy cheaper without the discount somewhere else...and I need to buy it between August 1 and December 31.

If you're a PCA member, you should be getting one of these too.

Suggestions?

I guess we're just nice guys. They're also sending out $1000 off certificates for Boxter S's.

It's a special deal between PCNA and PCA. Each member gets a $100 off of $200 parts at dealer. One certificate this year and one for early next year. Haven't seen mine yet, however, I do have a list

HUMM.... mighty nice of them! What is their normal mark-up?????????????I guess with prices that allow that-- they need to do something to compete with the "vendors"!

Paul,

You can get 20%-30% off Porsche list prices from a number of dealers, which in many cases meets or undercuts the "vendors". And parts come with the Porsche 2 year warranty.

I like to deal with Kenn Young who just moved to Reeves Porsche (he's the parts manager) in Tampa. Very knowledgable and you won't find better customer service. One time I ordered a master cylinder, and UPS sent it to parts unknown. Knowing I had to replace it for a track event, without me asking, Kenn overnighted a new one from Porsche and next day'd it to me, at his expense. (The original one eventually showed up. Instead of sending it to CT, UPS sent it to New Orleans, then Los Angeles, then CT).

I'm a PCA member, so how do I make sure I'm on the list? I need new front rotors now.

Here's info from the PCA web site:

The Parts Certificate Program will include two parts certificates each mailed separately to each active PCA member. The certificates will each have a value of $100 when redeemed at an authorized Porsche Dealer toward the purchase of Genuine Porsche Parts, Tequipment, or Selection merchandise. It can be applied to counter sales invoices or for the parts portion of a service order at a dealership. Each certificate requires a $200 minimum Genuine Porsche Parts, Tequipment or Selection purchase before taxes. Redemption is valid only for the date ranges listed on each certificate, August 2002 through December 2002 and February 2003 through June 2003.

Larry,

I got mine yesterday. Like Bill suggested, rotors are a great option, as are oil/air/pollen filters, belts, and sensors/relays/resistors that tend to go bad (e.g. boost pressure sensor and oil cooler resistor on my car).

Well, they arrived today and I'll be going to the dealer tomorrow to pick up a new set of rotors, as my new "OEM" set played connect-a-dot after a few track days.

Regards,
Jim

Don't be in too much of a rush. The certificate can't be used until August 1st.

Well, my 15,000 mi inspection is due. Dealer quoted me $780. Instead of this route i plan to purchase the Porsche maintenance kit and a new DME relay. Should be around $200 before PCA rebate. Will take kit to my local shop who should be able to do the labor at $150-250. Total of $250-$350.
