Post 996 cab in DE- can it run w/soft top up?

question-
my friend has a stock 996 cab. Can he do a beginners drivers ed event (limerock)? Can he run it with the soft top up? Also, is there a way to manually extend the pop-up roll bars? - would this be acceptable?
thanks,
rob

You really need to check with the PCA region in charge of the event. Each region has their own set of rules. The track also has something to say about the cars that are allowed to run.

RE: the pop-up roll-bars...there isn't a way to manually extend them. They are designed to deploy when the car thinks that it's about to flip over. Even if you could, it still would be up to the region in charge of the event and the track.

IIRC: Lime Rock doesn't allow stock 996 Cabrio's on the track. The crest of the uphill can trigger the roll-bars to deploy. Plus without the roll-bars deployed, there is no way of telling if you can pass the broomstick test!

There IS a way to manually deploy the pop-up roll bars, but I'm pretty sure it requires a special tool from Porsche. I have seen a demonstration of this. That said, the roll hoops are in most cases not high enough to pass a broomstick test.

I believe Brey Krause is working on a solution to this dilema.
