Post Gasoline question

I'm trying to find out about Gasoline in the US. My 993 cup is coming in Tuesday and I'm running it next Saturday and Sunday and I need to know what type of gas to put in.
The Porsche motorsports page says 98ROZ. The shell web site says 98 ROZ (or RON in english) = 93 US ((RON+MON)/2).
So, I think that I can run on plain old 93 that I can find at every pump in GA.
I see that most people at the track however run 100 US fuel because they say that pre-ignition would occur... Does anyone have REAL information on this? In other words, I am not prepared to try to save $3 per gallon and blow up a $25K engine... I figure that I will use about 500 gallons a year though so this is a $1500/year question that I would like to have answered.....
TIA
JM

Pump gas is fine for a stock engine normally aspirated. Unless you increase the compression, advance the timing , and / or go wih radical cams you won't need a higher motor octane rating than 92 to avoid detonation. Good luck !
