Post 993 Sunroof removal and weight savings, thoughts, experiences, sources please...

Happy New Year, No Work today!! What are my options on replacing the sunroof? Who makes a plug, Steel, Fiberglass, Carbon Fiber, replace the roof completely? Any experiences, sources, thoughts are appreciated...Also what about the interior pieces? Headliner, RS door panels and RS carpet kits? Other obvious ways to pull weight out of the car? Just going to leave AC, everything else is fair game...About to put a custom Chromolly cage in and this is the time to do all the interior and dash lightening...Also any sources or links of RSCS or GT2 factory cages would be great. Thanks as always for the help and I wish the Community best wishes for the New Year!

The first question is what is your goal? Turn the car into a GT racer, PCA stock racer or just track fun. If you want to club race (PCA) your option is to modify your car to RS/RSCS specs. That limits you to taking off about 250# (down to 2794#). The doors and hood are slightly under 100#. Then the mufflers, rear stock wing, stock seats, back seats and carpet/foam. All these items are in the 993 archives with the weight. The dash must remain intact although you can remove air bags (19#).

If GT racing is your goal sell your car and buy a car race ready and take advantage of someone elses 150K to build a 70K racer. DC Lee on the 993 board had his roof cut off and a factory non-sunroof unit welded on.

The 3.8 cyl kit and sunroof delete are very costly without much (if any) gain. The welded cage, trans mod to a G50-32, suspension set up...
