Kinesis ...

Anybody know what's up with Kinesis? Their website seems to be gone. Are they still in business? Has someone bought the business?

kurquhart 01-05-2007 10:15 PM

Yes, they got bought out by a larger wheel company, but I don't recall the name.

I just purchased some new Kinesis from Wheel Enhancement and had a pleasant experience. I wanted the new wheels to exactly match the old, but when I call Kinesis customer support (new company?) they were unable to find the specs for my old wheels. Wheel Enhancement still has contacts within Kinesis and were able to match my old wheels, thankfully.

va122 01-05-2007 11:10 PM

Lorinser bought them

dave morris 01-05-2007 11:45 PM

Thanks guys. I wonder what happened. Kinesis made some very nice wheels.

karlooz 01-06-2007 12:32 AM

lexani bought them and was told "was going to bring them up to the next level" whatever that means. i just hope they keep the name AND quality alive and don't pimp it out like the rest of their wheels. it doesn't look good, just take a look at their website. the owners of kinesis were just given an offer they couldn't refuse.

mark kibort 01-06-2007 02:45 AM

so, what is the deal. are you now talking to lexani? and is there still a kenisis around to answer those type of questions. If i damage a rim, who will have the rim section to fix it? Is the name Kinesis living on or is it officially dead?
are my next set of race rims from lexani going to be spinners? maybe they can make a spinning impeller to take the heat out of the race calipers
thanks,

MK

Here come the baller pimped out master "G" race series participants....I hate lexani and all those 38" rim w/I C E manufacturers. Why do they give themselves such fag sounding names?

Guess my K57s won't get rebarreled after all :(

The company Kinesis appears to be gone, but you can still buy Kinesis wheels and rim halves. How long that will continue is anyone's guess.

If I get desparate, I can just drive to the Kinesis factory; it is only 20 miles away. Of course, that could be gone now, too. :(

kary993 01-06-2007 01:36 PM

I have been dealing with the new owners of Kinesis and it has been difficult. They do not have any history of dealers, they do not have the Kinesis molds for the wheels (as of last month), and they do not seem to get back with anyone when you call them. I am working on two orders for customers now and it is difficult for a previous dealer of Kinesis, can't imagine what it would be like for a customer......I think I will start recommending Fikse or BBS as it is much easier.

mark kibort 01-06-2007 04:17 PM

Ive heard that forgeline is a good alternative. good looking wheels too!

im getting worried about the availability of the kinesis parts. if i a dent a rim section , who do i call?
Would it be the kinesis number or the new Lexani number. sounds like i better stop hitting the birms at laguna!

you'll need to call a retailer (wheel enhancement) for any replacement parts. i was lucky and was able to get in contact with kinesis directly when they were still in transition. i ordered wheel bolts and nuts without a problem but i have a feeling no one at lexani would know what the hell you're talking about.

it's a shame as kinesis had good wheels.

i think it's time to move onto a different brand. jongbloed is a brand i keep hearing good things about.... and they're local (morgan hill)

earlyapex 01-07-2007 12:31 AM

I second Jongbloed. I got a set of custom 18" wheels made in one week.

mooty 01-07-2007 02:27 AM

i also ran jongbloed on track.
lighter than my fikses and stornger too.

Greg Fishman 01-07-2007 01:33 PM

You guys should also consider Forgeline wheels. The owner Dave Schardt is a PCA racer and has developed some great wheels for racers and for your street cars. www.forgeline.com They are good to do business with also and stand behind their products.

Kinesis was bought out by Lexani,,

Mark get your 928 down to our track day on Jan 24th!!

Mark in Baltimore 01-08-2007 10:23 AM

Just checked out the www.lexani.com website. OMG, what kind of deal with the devil did Kinesis make? Fikse must be laughing their asses off...

earlyapex 01-08-2007 10:25 AM

Can you buy custom 20" three piece spinners?

karlooz 01-08-2007 01:08 PM

lexani probably bought kinesis for the manufacturing/technology and then apply it to their 24" wheel line cuz ya know, the 24"ers are all about performance

Cory M 01-08-2007 01:53 PM

So does anybody know what Lexani's plans are? Are they going to continue to make the current line of Kinesis race wheels and service the old ones? Doesn't make a lot of sense to buy Kineis and then quit making the wheels that gave them a great reputation...

Black Sea RD 01-09-2007 10:03 PM

Man do I feel better after stumbling onto this thread. I have a set of Kinesis 17" Supercup wheels that were on my wife's 1989 928S4 and found that one of the front wheel spokes has a crack in it. I called Kinesis and asked to buy a replacement. Was told they no longer make them (!) and they had nothing to offer.

I replaced the wheel set with another and am thinking of selling these wheels at Sebring at the 48 hour event. I had enough of their attitude over the phone not knowing the story behind it all. Go figure...

I don't know what you're talking about. I got my new Kinesis/Lexani wheels today... I can't tell the difference...

Larry Herman 01-10-2007 01:00 AM

I think that I'll wait on the "new Kinesis" till Hoosier comes out with R6s in 22 inchers.

cool, now i will buy your car, if you throw in the new lexani stuff.

BlueRiver86 01-10-2007 12:47 PM

So, is there a Kinesis division on the Lexani site or did they kill the line all together? This sucks I was just looking into a set for the track, is there a good place you can still get them?

Cory M 01-10-2007 01:19 PM

Why would they buy Kinesis just to kill it? Its not like Kinesis was a direct competitor of theirs. Its not like Kinesis has some crazy technology either - the wheels are pretty simple and Lexani could figure out their manufacturing methods without having to buy them.

I'm just afraid that they are going to take the Kinesis wheel designs to a CNC shop in China and start cranking out low quality wheels that have the same look (PURE SPECULATION ON MY PART).

viperbob 01-10-2007 01:23 PM

Your also the guy that had trouble seeing the rod sticking through the side of your block :) . Good to see you posting a little...

Wheel Enhancement. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

I have to agree with Greg Fishman's statments earlier in the thread. Take a look at Forgelines. www.forgeline.com I have three sets of Forgeline race wheels, and I love them. I wouldn't run anything else.

viperbob 01-10-2007 04:33 PM

I only sell Forgelines and Jongbloeds now. The other have been very problematic when a customer forced me to get an X Y or Z wheel. I ran Forgeline SX3Rs (even lighter ZX3Rs now) on my own 993TT on the track. Can't say enough good things about them...

I can see you're livin' that "Lexani Lifestyle"! (ref: Lexani website)

You need those for the Spec Miata. No issues w/ being under the min. 13 lb wheel weight . . .

BlueRiver86 01-11-2007 01:58 PM

Thanks Kris and Jim, i'm going to check out both sites.

Mark Anderson 01-11-2007 02:22 PM

I sold all my Kinesis wheels (5 sets) and replaced them with Forgelines. Dave Shardt was very good to work with and I am very happy with my new wheels.

csudhoff 01-11-2007 05:18 PM

I hope they keep the same styling as Kinesis did, really sick wheels for any kind of high end sports car.

chris walrod 01-11-2007 11:22 PM

A very close racing friend of mine works for Lexani -- I will ping him and see what he'll tell me.

BlueRiver86 01-11-2007 11:55 PM

Cool, everyone is like on the edge of their seat wondering whats gonna happen lol.
