Default New Carbon Fiber Race Induction System

But not for retail sale! Nevertheless, this still a bit rough prototype is of one piece construction, is not autoclaved and weighs appropriately 1500 grams.

Very nice. If it is not autoclaved, how is it cured and what is the benefit?

High compression tool with heating elements - no autoclave = reduced time and cost.

Dang, that's the first for a boxer engine...?

Jon Milledge has been doing graphite intakes for 944 cars for years:

I don't think he ever claimed it was the first of its kind.

Awesome work, Robert. Is Humpty Dumpty finished yet?

Certainly made no such claim. Indeed, people have done it before us and, no doubt, people will do it after us too. Cartridge's only claim is to have supplied such parts to Porsche for OE fitment onto RSR's.

As to Humpty Dumpty, I have been rather ill for approximately 24 months and, as such, other projects have taken priority. As, however, I seem to be recovering, HD is back on. The titanium windshield wiper movement assembly has just been installed, the reduced weight titanium/steel seat rails should be ready in a few weeks, the new carbon fiber mirrors (second generation) should be ready by the end of the year and the carbon fiber oil cooler/transmission fluid cooler and air conditioning condenser cooling fans and McLaren reduced weight motors should be ready by January. In turn, 3 to 6 days of final assembly by a team and alignment and, one hopes, completion by the end of February.

We all agree it looks HAWT, but what are the technical benefits companies to OE or non-carbon after market?

For a small number of parts, carbon fiber will actually be less expensive than the cost of molds for other methods of manufacture. Additionally, carbon fiber is very light and stiff and it is relatively easy to make certain complex shapes.

I have a question for you carbon buffs, if I needed panels fabricated in carbon fiber based off of something i already have (fenders with riveted flares, elongated hood, front bumper) who would I go to in order to get a part like this made? Is there anyone on the 'list that does this kind of work?

Already talked to :

Racer's Group
GT Racing
IFC

I have a local guy that does a lot of Porsche parts for Grand Am Rolex and for ALMS teams. Shoot me an email at seth at seththomas.net with the details of what you want and I will see what we can do. I know it can be made but the mold cost and production time is the biggest expense.
