Quick seat question...
I've been looking at putting new seats in the 924S for auto-x and DE use. My budget is somewhat limited due to my engine rebuild, but don't want a tube frame as I might be driving longer distances as well. I came across the Corbeau FX1 Pro for a decent price. My only concern is legality for DE events... are they OK, assuming proper mounting and appropriately mounted 6-pt harnesses? Or is it even a concern?
Thanks!
Thanks!

For DE I would think that as long as it is FIA approved, you are fine. However, I wouldn't buy a seat that wouldn't work with a HANS device which may be required in the not to distant future.

Should be fine for Auto-x and DE but you really need to sit in the seats to feel how they fit before buying them, especially if you will be driving longer distances. Don't forget to include the price of mounting brackets and sliders in your budget too.

Hey;
There are no rules governing which seat is proper for DE. I suggest getting the best you can afford. Most of the cheaper seats are not worth the savings. FIA seats will keep you much safer than the average plastic cheapo. I don't think you'll see H&N devices mandated for DE, but you might for racing. Most of the generic wing seats have no bearing on HANS use.

My alternative is the Momo Start, which I know is FIA rated and in a similar price range.

Does that Corbeau seat have the hole for the sub-belt(s)? I can't tell from the picture. That hole is required in my PCA Region, and several others, if you are using 5 or 6 point harnesses.

I use the Corbeau. It is FIA rated and for my body size fits well and is quite comfortable. They also come in a narrow version under a different model name. I use it with a Hans at it works fine. They are very flexible so I would suggest considering a seat back brace as part of you setup.

While there may not be rules for seats for DE's, there are often equivalent restraint rules. These state the both seats safety belts need to be equivelant -not exactly the same, but of the same type. If you put in a 5/6 point harness on one side, do it on both, or leave your factory 3 point in as well.
This would only apply if you have a passenger/instructor with you.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions. I will be putting in new seats and 5 or 6-pt camlock harnesses on both sides. However, I will be retaining the stock belts due to Quebec's unwillingness to regulate vehicle safety and have simply banned any non-OEM passenger retention systems. In other words, even if I were to have a DOT-approved 4-pt Schroth harness, they could ticket me for not wearing a seatbelt unless I wear the 3-pt over (or under) the harness. As a result, I will install a roll bar and create new lower mounting pts for the harness to retain the OEM belts 100%.

i got a set of konig seats from konig that are bottom mount. they are cobra monacos which are fia approved. i decided i need a reclining seat because of my drive to and from the track and put them on ebay where they are now for $45 each seat. they are brand new.
if you get konig seats you have to contact wedge engineering to have a mounting bracket made since cobras base is different than sparco or recaro. summitracing also sells konig seats and they also sell the base bracket for something like 65. then there are tracks.
I also bought two sets of side mount steel sparco brackets. they are also on ebay right now brand new for a lot less than they cost me last month.
also if the belts on you 924 are mounted to the seat, there is an area in the transmission tunnel where the bolt/belt in pre 85.5 944s mounted.

If you can, take the weight into consideration as well. I know CF is out of the question, but I think the Sparco Sprint is light and inexpensive. I wish there was a table that comparried all the seat weights.

I think I just might set up a table tonight for all current seats, be it tube-frame, FG or CF.... once I finish the lab report that I have due in class tmw.
