Fun with Data -- VIR (UPDATED with Better Graphs and GSUM!)
#33
well, I guess I really am not trail braking in very many places at VIR after all. Here is the plot of lateral vs. longitudinal Gs. In theory, it should be a circle. The shape of the right side is explained by the difficulty of generating positive gs under acceleration in a n/a 944. The shape of the left side shows that I am not doing too much braking and turning at the same time or else it would be more rounded, or so I think.

ROTFLMMFAO.
Todd, if you ever get the chance, try to hook up throttle position & brake position sensors. They are, IMO, by far THE most valuable inputs for track data you can possibly have. The first time I used data, and looked at all the places where I thought I was flat but wasn't...and where I was braking like I was wearing your skirt was humbling, to say the least.

OK, here are the g plots for each segment of the track marked above. I wonder how much of the difference over this past weekend was due to brand new RA1s as compared to the scrubbed (and very good) RA1s I used in August and April? Who knows.

EUREKA.
I finally get it.
Careful examination for sector 8 -- rollercoaster -- reveals that, in the immortal words of Groucho Marx, "Either this man is dead or my watch has stopped."
See? Data can be useful even to newbies.

Seeing your evident architectural talent, I'll bet you also designed the Clinton Presidential Library too, right?
