In DE events at VIR I find that it helps get rid of all the sand etc that is stuck to the tires.
I only do it going through pit out and stay off line until turn 1 where hopefully everything is clean by then.

Be careful. Tire scrubbies down pit lane (if that's what you meant) is a quick way to draw a black flag in most race organizations.

I'm a vigorous tire scrubber. Cleans the crap off, builds a little heat. But...I'm not just gently steering back and forth...I'm tossing the damn thing hard and sliding both ends. I'm convinced that it makes a big difference, and that's what counts for me.

Racing on cold tires is like juggling chainsaws...you just want to be 'brave enough', but not 'too brave'.

The other reason to swerving during the formation lap is to test the stick of the tires and build some confidence before that first turn. At least that's what I tell myself...
