Default PCA seat rule

Could someone clarify PCA's rule for race seats, I don't see what I'm looking for in the rulebook.

1) Seat must be replaced after five years?
2) Seat back brace is mandatory?
3) If I have a seat back brace, I can use my seat past five years?

Thanks.

1) Seat must be replaced after five years? No. Only need to replace if you don't want to run a seat back brace.

2) Seat back brace is mandatory? No. Only if the seat & rails are not FIA approved

3) If I have a seat back brace, I can use my seat past five years? Yes.

Add to this that the seat rails and mounts have to be less than 5 years old as well.

The scrut I was working with at the last CR recomends to keep the paperwork. He also said it was a tough rule to deal with and it was not popular with the National team.

The originator was the first gentleman who died in when his seat rail failed as he backed into a berm...

Which was also the genesis of the seat back brace rule...

Just run a good seat back brace and the whole thing is moot.

Why not just make a SBB mandatory and be done with it? Is there some problem with that?

Thought it was the seat that failed. From whence came the FIA (and the 5 yr) or back brace rule. That almost make some sense. Blanket 5 years on a steel part does not.

Just so I'm clear on this - any car that is older than a 2002 model can not run it's orginial seat rails - seat back brace or not. Is that the correct interpretation?

Also, can someone point me to that regulations? Unless i leafed through it too quickly - I didn't see it.

The STREET(not fia) seat rails bent and the seat back resting on the cage horizontal cross brace broke Rick's seat back(not Fia rated) at the base of his helmet and ........... you know the rest. Most seat back braces would not have saveed his life. IMHO. Rick backed perpendicular into the pit out guard rail @ at what is estimated 90 mph. There was no give to the guard rail as it was back filled by earth. That's a lot of G's to stop in about 2' of space. Replacing Fia steel rails after 5 years is nuts.
