The word a couple of years ago was that one could purchase a street legal UK version, or at least a version legal in the UK streets--something about the ride height being ~1.5" greater.

You cannot import a running vehicle from another country to the US for street use. I know this from my Atom research.

You can if you get it revamped per DOT, EPA and the rest of the DC acronyms. Not worth it for an Atom, but it only ads about $300K to the cost of a McLaren F1.
