Default Sizing Hoosier Tires

I am looking to go with Hossier tires on the 87 944T but the size I want isn't available. I normally run 225x45x17 on the fronts and 255x40x17 on the rears. This give a tire section height of:

225x.45= 101mm
255x.40= 102mm

Now, Hoosiers are available in 255x45 and 275x40. Section height is:

255x.45= 114mm
275x.40 =110mm

I want to stay with 255 as I know they fit, no rubbing. The question I have is 12 mm or 1/2 inch anything to get concerned about. How much height difference do you have to have to start effecting the balance of the car?

Well, I guess I will just purchase the 255x45 and see see how they work out.

Most 944T i've seen running Hoosiers have a 245/40 front and 275/40 rear. Sometimes I see 245/45's up front, but that is odd. Never seen a 255/45 up front, sounds way too tall to me

DANGER DANGER!

Please never use the 225x.45= 101mm style of formula ever, especially
for competition tires. Even for street tires they are only approximate
and for race tires they are less than a 'serving suggestion'. I have seen
two 245-45-16 street tires differ in diameter by close to .5", from the *same*
manufacturer! They were different model tires.
All the online tire size calculators are based on the formula idea and
they are all bunk. The only way to know the real dimensions of the tire
is to consult the vendor's tire spec sheet.
Hoosier used to make a DOT 305-30-18 tire. They don't anymore. They
now make a 315-30-18. *IT'S THE SAME TIRE*. This year they just decided
that all these years that tire's dimensions were actually closer to the
315-30-18 meaning than the 305-30-18 that they had been imprinting it
with, so they simply changed the lettering on the sidewall.

Thanks for the replies, I am really needing to get this purchase right. Trial and error could get real expensive fast!

Are the 245x40 up front are on 7 or 9 inch rims?

Thanks for the heads up, I will contact Tire rack and ask them for the exact size of the tire.

The 255's are also (I believe) a special order tire - so availibility can be limited.
