The ATL ne- Kokeln unit is $1800+? And therein lies the rub. There ARE no other cells that fit neatly on either side of the tranny over 10g, and that is too little capacity. Factor in that it is still $500-700 for that dinky cell and it just doesn't add up.

"Putting the weight where it is needed" sounds quite logical until you try and find a cell that will fit where you want it; low and not too far back. Fuhgedaboudit. The stock tank is a brilliant piece of packaging. Trying to duplicate its fuel handling, chassis balance, and capacity properties with a fuel cell is essentially impossible.

If I had it to do over again, I'd get the shortest generic rectangular cell of 15-20g I could find, plop it down above the tranny, and make a raised floor over it. Yes, it raises that mass considerably, but... trust me... been there!

Yes it is a costley consumable
I'm betting a custom bladder would be $300-500. Just a guess. I just did not want a soft bladder that I had to replace regularly. Mine is a polyethylene type.

I have thought of cutting a stock one in half and just using the right hand side.
I am pretty sure that it would be enough fuel for 30-40 minutes.

Is there room to fit two 'pod' type bladders in the back? Or put two wedges behind the seats?

$$$ That's what i figured. I will just mount the poly lined one in hand best I can and armor the location.

John, you can't have built much with having had a DOH! moment or 3. i have them every day and use them for laugh breaks. (Ok sometimes it is a throw tools down and go get a beer break...)

I have surprisingly few dope slappers, to be perfectly honest. I don't have many gifts, but one of them seems to be that when I think something through, it seems to work pretty dang well right out of the chute.

One rare but collosal exception was when I got antsy and built the first surge tank for my cell. I did it without looking at the cell, or even really thinking that much about it... obviously. It was just a bit too big to FIT THROUGH THE OPENNING! Like about TWICE too big!

My custom containment seat is a tight squeeze, but it DOES go in and out of the car.

So... let's hear it, eh?

There all levels of Doh! moments. Homemade surge tank that wont fit through the hole of the tank in hand is a good one. Opening the hood and looking at the battery tryng to figure out why it went dead and then remembering that you pulled the battery disconect is another level. We are human and F-ing up is all part. Covering up and getting it right ASAP is the key. If no one saw it, before you fixed it, it did not happen!

You are spot on right about that. I don't do much fab stuff, but built my race car myself so I had many of this "nothing to see here" moments.

Not happening a second time helps too. A wise man learns from his mistakes. OTOH really smart people learn from the mistakes made by others.
