Bowman,
If I were you my first choice would be a 235-285 MPSC combo. They will fit your rims. They're not too tall. You can drive them to the track and it should be about the right amount of rubber.

My second choice would be 245/35-285/30 Hoosiers. The R6s that came out this year last much longer than previous Hoosiers but you still can't drive them to the track. Well you could but I don't think it's the best idea. I use 315s in back now but I ran these sizes last year in club racing and did pretty well. Make sure to watch your tire temps if you're short on camber.
Good luck,
Jim

Thanks Jim,

One more question. Why not go with 245/40 and 295/30s since those are closer to the stock diameters?

I use 245/35s in front because they get the car a little closer to the ground and have a little less sidewall which I prefer. 40s would work fine as well.

I don't think you want to put 295s on your 10 inch rims although you should check with Hoosier. Also, shorter rear tires are the same as shorter gears which will help your acceleration a bit. Hoosier may warn you about 285/30s not having enough sidewall for a rear tire but many racers use them in back. You'll have to decide.

BTW, I don't have PSM so matching diameters doesn't matter to me. It may to you.

Still, I'd stick with the MPSCs if I were you. The 1/2 second you gain with Hoosier is not likely to be worth had hassle.

1/2 a second is all they are worth? I heard like 1-2 seconds. Have you raced on the cups yet? I did call Hoosier and they recommended the 295s.

I run 235s/295s MPSCs on 8s & 10s. The 295s will fit just fine on the rim. I also have no PSM to worry about.

Yep, I should have checked the spec sheet earlier. The 295s are fine on 10 inch rims. I really don't think you're going to see much difference between 285s and 295s. I liked the 285s because the tall gears in the 996 were helped by the short 285s but pick whichever you prefer. I really don't think you'll see much difference.

As for how much faster Hoosiers are then MPSCs. That's a huge "it depends." How many heat cycles? How long into a run? How your car is set up? etc etc

I think most would say that Hoosiers are slightly faster but lots of people are racing successfully on MPSCs. Colin is a good example. He's very fast on MPSCs. Now, if all the rule changes pass and I put a 3.4L back in my car and go looking for him in D, you can bet he'll be back on Hoosiers.
