This car is a 2000 VIN car. I was re-tubbed and rebuilt with 2005 parts.

The only thing remaining is the VIN.......It is an ALL new 05 car. Not old crashed parts....or a couple of new 05 parts. Everything is 05. It was not a rebuilt crashed 2000 car. It was assembled from all new parts...every nut and bolt, clip and screw...including a NEW never used 05 Tub...

So why woud it have the 2000 VIN still?

I guess my question is why not use a 2005 VIN? Was it that aquiring the bare tub means it does not have a VIN at all? Thus to rebuilt the car means keeping the 2000 VIN or risk not having a VIN at all?

Porsche M/S won't sell you a tub outright...you must give a vin plate cut off an existing car to get a new tub....that is how this one was aquired.

I can vouch for the car as I've seen it and sat in it (my *** was too big for the tiny seat), it may have a 2000 vin but it's 100% a 2005 car. I should have bought the car when I had the chance....

Ok,
This makes sense. Kind of figured it had to do with a bare tub not being a complete car and all.

[QUOTE=jrgordonsenior]Interesting story..... Somebody buys the car new roughly 2 years ago for about $125k. They throw a nice paint job on it, and drives it somewhere for half an hour. Then it just sits? BTW I think it's a great buy

I can tell you that in the last few weeks this car was not sitting around, Rick DeMan completely disassembled and reassembled it, to make sure it was built properly, and he's one of the absolute best with these Cup Cars. Someone's gonna get as good an example as exists.

Nice car and good luck with the sale.

I don't know this particular car but know this kind of practice (VIN) is actually fairly common among Porsche race cars.

Is the car equipped with an 05 motor? I don't see the switchable map in the dash.
