Default Setting up your P-car for Daytona

Just wondering how you guys plan to set up your cars for the PCA Daytona race? Any wealth of knowledge that us flat track guys can get from you banked-oval guys as far as set up?

Not a clue. I am going to talk to my mechanic (Dan Jacobs) to see if he recommends anything. He ran my car at Daytona for the Rennsport Reunion.

Seriously, this could be a great thread. Could help safety, too!

I am entered and hope to make it. First thing I have to do is put the trans with the stock R&P in it. With the current rear, I'll be lucky to make it half way through the banking before I run out of revs. There goes my acceleration. Second, I'm going to ask Chris Cervelli if I need to make any other changes.

Larry, I had the same problem at Rennsport Reunion. Ran out of gear before I hit the back straight. Wasn't much fun at all having to lift several times on the banking. Would've been interesting to see how fast it would've gone before I had to lift

My mechanic whose has lots of time setting up cars at Daytona made a couple changes to my car before RRII. Right rear he dialed the camber to about -1.5 instead of the normal -3.0. Also removed some from the front right. Also ran a tad bit less toe in. Also set my RSCS wing to the flat setting. My 993 hit about 155 based on the rpm calculation we did.

I would STRONGLY recommend everyone get the camber on the right rear adjusted to less (more positive) than -2 degrees at the absolute minimum precaution.
I would also advise to run the tallest (largest diameter) tire that can reasonably fit under the rear, even if it reqiures raising the car slightly.

Hey Rich! Aren't you concerned about the oil starvation issue? I'm thinking of running there in April with PBOC and am myself concerned. Will you be at Sebring with PBOC next month? I've been playing alot with the suspension lately and wanted to share some notes.

Right. I would be afraid to run the Hoosier 285's on the rear of a 911 considering their history. The 305's worked great for me at RRII and helped with the gearing a bit as well.

While some of us can speculate as to why to do this, it would be helpful to most to explain the reasons for your advice. I for one get extremely even wear on my rear tires, and run very little toe-in, and am wondering if I really need to make any changes.

Greg, I have 4 weekends on the new R6s (285 rears) and have seen none of the wear problems associated with the older tires.

Larry,
That is good news, especially if you are running at Daytona.
My understanding that you want less negative in your right rear tire so that you aren't running on the edge of your tire and generating lots of heat that it isn't designed to handle. Flattening the tire out will help handle the extra load that the banking will generate.

Adam,
Did any of the GA Cup 996s/997s run without the taco wing? It might give us poor water cooled guys a slight top end advantage against the RSAs and RSCS that have to run their wings/spoilers.
Jim

Speaking of 997s, I see there's one signed up in C.

Not interested in Daytona, too many changes to make to the cup car (not even legal to change the gears in GT3C which is required to do well at Daytona and not wear out your engine). The 2.7RS would get killed by C2 / 944Ts on the straight. Autocrossing is more challenging than going flat out at top speed and about $10K less than Daytona in the cup car.
