Default F1 coming to Laguna Seca

OK, it's not going to be on the calendar in place of Indy for the USGP, but Toyota will be running a TF106 with Richard Zonta at Laguna Seca:

Nice! When Ferrari had their F2004 there in the 2004 event, it was simply incredible. There's something about Laguna's bowl shape that enhances the sound. I've been to a number of F1 events and tests, including Fiorano, and I have never heard better F1 sound than at Laguna. It's worth a trip to Laguna just to hear it.

I'd like to see the time or gap between an F1 car and a Champ car one. With Zonta driving, at least we know he's quite capable of putting in a quick lap, although I'm sure he won't be driving at 10/10ths.

The guy driving the Ferrari F2004 (a Ferrari test driver, don't remember the name) was pushing quite hard, trying to set the absolute lap record. He fell short by about half a second IIRC. It was cool and windy that weekend, which at Laguna means sand on the track, and of course the Champ Car record was set some years ago with slicks and more ponies. No doubt the current F1 cars are quite a bit quicker than the current Champ Cars, check out Montreal, the only track they both run on. The pole Champ Car would be at the tail end of the F1 grid.
