Default Great Save at Road America's Kink

I gotta shake the 944 driver's hand. Great save coming out of the Kink at Road America!

Lucky guy.

Looks like there's a new bridge between the carousel and the kink.
What's over there?

They added a new viewing area for the super-bikes that use the Kink bypass - excellent place to watch now. First time ever you can get a great view of the kink.

Wow, that guy is damn lucky.

Little trivia about the kink. I asked Carson (head of safety at RA) about some day moving the wall at the kink. He said when the railroad was shut down (tracks are on the other side of the wall at the kink) RA looked into moving the wall back. DNR stepped in, informed the track there was an underground stream or something back there, no way they could move anything further back.

Anyone hear run with any groups that use the kink bypass?

I raced there a couple of weeks ago. First time in 5 years and first at those speeds - and only second time racing there. I finally started to gaina real love for the place and the challenge of all those fast corners. Took me a lot of laps before I finally cranked up enough courage to take the Kink flat, but after doing it a few times (and getting my vision up as I got comfortable) I couldn't figure out why I didn't go faster sooner (my fastest was just a tick over 125 through the Kink).

I still suck there, but am determined to get better by going back a couple of times next season (and one more this year). But, I will remember that video and give it the respect it deserves in a different car with less grip that belongs to someone else.

Great save? That was damned lucky. If he had caught the sideways slide and brought it back straight (no tank slapper) THAT would have been a great save!

Larry

If you lose it in the kink and don't hit a wall, it's a great save... by your guardian angel.

You got that right! We get lots of practice driving through guardrail canyons at the Glen too. Why just to the right of me is one!

Default The Kink

Great video and lucky save! Took a SB advanced class there last month and that is the spot where supposedly two people were killed sometime ago in Skippy cars. Open wheel cars + kink + concrete walls + lifting in a fast turn
