Default Trailer Help Please

Could you give me your recommendations for company that makes the best enclosed trailer to haul my 87 911? I will be using a GMC Yukon to pull the trailer.
As always, thanks !

ATC (aluminum trailer company) http://www.aluminumtrailer.com/
is considered by many to be the 'Cadillac' of enclosed aluminum car haulers. There are a few members here who have enclosed ATC's.

Cargopro http://www.cargoprotrailers.com/ makes very good aluminum enclosed car haulers as well.

Obviously I'm biased towards aluminum (lighter, much higher resale value) but you should also consider what local support/trailer shops are close by and what they sell and service.
For me, I was fortunate that Atlantic Coast Trailers http://www.actrailers.com/
here in MA is a PCA sponsor, sells all the major lines and services them as well and the guys are all racers, so they can spec out any trailer you can imagine and offer good advise.

BTW, a driver's side escape door in the trailer makes getting in and out of the race car MUCH easier.

Whichever you choose, i would encourage you to get an all aluminum trailer if you are able to. They will outlast any steel framed trailer and are much lighter and easier to live with over the long term. They will not depreciate anywhere near as much as other trailers also. I like the Trailex trailers myself....

With a Yukon, you need a trailex enclosed, anything else will be borderline.

Is the Yukon the standard or XL version.....IIRC, the Yukon XL is the same as a Chevy Suburban, which is a bit smaller than a Ford Excursion?

FWIW -

A 3/4 Ton Yukon XL with the 8.1 and proper gear is rated to tow 12,000. I tow 10,000 with no problem.

This is my second XL that I have done this with (2000 & 2005)...

You will find other threads in the forum about trailers and what's good and what's not. Everyone has an opinion just like Ford or Chevy, etc.

Just like a performance car, trailer weight does matter. I have an enclosed Trailex that I bought new this spring. It weighs 1,850 lbs. With car (993 Cup) and gear, I'm at 5,000 lbs. +/-. I'm pulling with a V8 VW Touareg (7,700 lb. towing capacity). It pulls like a dream and you literally do not know its behind the vehicle when towing.

The Trailex is more expensive than most other brands. It is all aluminum and built to the nines. No corners are cut, there isn't one thing on the trailer I would change. Pit Pal products rivet easily to the side walls for a profesional looking installation.

Greg Brown of Performance Motorwerks in Anaheim, CA told me that he screwed himself out of thousands of dollars per year of clutch work for his racing customers when he got most of them to install winches in their trailers. He said that you will burn a clutch up quickly by driving the car into the trailer. I took his advice and purchased the WARN winch kit that Trailex sells for the trailer. It was well worth it and makes loading the car, especially by yourself, an absolute breeze. I strongly recommend that whatever you buy includes a winch.

The Trailex is tight, but its tight for a reason because it is low and very aerodynamic behind the vehicle. It is very comfortable to set chairs up inside the trailer, but if you're 6 feet tall, you will stoop a little when in the trailer. A small price to pay in my opinion for long hauls. There is plenty of room for a 911 and a motorscooter behind the car in the trailer along with a tire rack above the hood of the car, fuel jug rack along the side and all the other shelves and racks you could want from Pit Pal.

BTW - My Haulmark Edge is a good trailer; however, if I was going to do it again, I would definitely get an all aluminum trailer so it would last longer with less maintenance...

as stated ATC is real close to the best there is. TN is a company that has been around a while and now is owned by ATC. They make a combo steel/aluminum trailer you may want to check out, alot of the ATC components are being used in the TN's

good luck!

I used to hear a lot of good things about Featherlite all aluminum trailers- but not too much anymore for the smaller trailers - anytone know why not - is it due to cost /quality, etc???

I own a Featherlite. I believe the build is among the best however, they still weigh a bit more compared to some of the other all aluminum trailers. This along with so many other options in my opinion is why we don't hear much about them.

I had a Featherlite 34 goose. It was 12 years old and still looked brand new. Definately very well constructed, and wouldnt be a poor choice at all. Anyone hear anything about the TN's I mentioned above. I take delivery of a nice smoothside 26, any day now. (maybe I shoulda asked this before I ordered, lol)
