Sounds similar to the Grassroots Motorsports 200X Challenge - where you build a car for $200X dollars (changes with the year - this year it's $2006) and compete it a tri-autothon of sorts - AX, Drag, and Concours.

Yes, except this rule would seem to set a different tone for the event:

1.6: Your Car May Be Destroyed At Any Time: In addition to accidents and other unfortunate boo-boos, during the course of the race, one car may be selected by blind ballot of all registered participants for immediate removal and total destruction. It could be your car. It probably WILL BE your car. Them's the breaks. Don't bring it if you ain't OK with losing it.

In PCA I think rule 1.6 would discourage spending over $100k

Chevy Caprice Wagon. I'm in, but only with appropriate teammates. Oh...and somebody needs to find a Caprice wagon in running condition someplace in California.

Wonder if they've hired Hells Angels for security (again...).
