Default HANS: self- or distributor install?

I did a search, if this info. has been covered already, I didn't find it amongst all the H & N restraint debate.

Without yet having the mounting instructions, I am wondering if I should install the helmet anchors myself or have the distributor do it for me. Is it relatively easy to locate the points for the anchor mount holes given their instructions? Or is this something best left to the distributor since they have the experience?

Info. from the distributor says 90% of buyers mount their own, but an informal survey of people I know with a HANS all had the distributor do it.

TIA

I drilled and mounted them myself.

Not hard, but I did measure 10 times and drilled once.

I'm with Joe - easy, but measure multiple times to ensure you mount in the right location.

Since I bought mine at HD while I was in Atlanta, I just had them do it. They have a couple of specialized tools that make it a bit easier, but it doesn't look like something that would be a PITA DIY job.

I did it myself. However, it was a PITA to get enough room between the padding and helmet to tighten the mounts. This may be specific to certain brands. I have a OMP Vision helmet.

I'm a klutz...if I pick up a wrench, skin just starts to fall off my knuckles...but I installed mine myself without any problems.

Look MOM I did it all by myself. But I did measure it 400 times and installed it at a Holiday Inn Express.

Get some sheet metal to put between the fiberglass and foam when you drill.

It's pretty easy. I did myself on my wife's Bell helmet. My Arai GP5 came with the holes predrilled (with little plastic plugs) so it was really easy.

That is where the special tools they have at HD come in handy (but they aren't required).

It must be simple if local distributors do it for no additional charge, as they do for regular customers anyway.

Distributor...included in the price and I did see an Arai helmet listed at a discount due to a botched Hans install.
