Default Questions about SP1-2-3...

I have few questions about the PCA's new classes. I have a 86 944 turbo, preparred to F class, GTS challenge and supercup. My current car would fall into the SP3 class but in the PCA rules it lists under 7.2 All Models, max wheel dia and width is 16 x 7. I this correct? Or does this only pertain to chart B, 924S/944/944S? This info was found on page nie of the supplement. Also, the SP1 and SP2 rules are similiar with a few differences. Will most people build and/or run SP1 since the rules mirror 944-spec?

The 'few differences' between SP1 and SP2 are more than you might think. SP2, or 944Cup rules, were framed to allow any PCA or SCCA car to run in a competitive one-class series. SP1, or 944Spec rules, were framed to limit costs by restricting suspension and other mods that are legal in PCA Stock and 944Cup. There have been a number of forum debates on these two rule sets, driven in part by the NASA Nationals running at Mid Ohio in September.

As for wheels, the SP2 [944Cup] and SP3 [944SuperCup] rules are the same as PCA Stock rules: Up to inch wider than stock, diameter is free.

There are major differences. These involve wheels/tires and suspensions mostly. SP2 is more open and SP1 is more restrictive. SP1 has spec tires and a choice of two spec wheels. SP2 has open tire & wheels.

I am not sure what most people will build. Right now east coast is mostly SP2, SP3. West coast is SP1.

I cannot speak to the details of SP2 or SP3, but If you have detailed questions about SP1 rules or the people in the class I can help you answer them.

For your turbo - basically follow your PCA F-stock or e-prepared rules and you'll be fine. Note that interior isn't required for SP2, and that there are significant minimum weight differences.

Stock boost is required. Check out the www.44cup.com board for more detailed info - Supercup rules and SP3 are identical.

You are correct that the max wheel size you reference applies to cars prepared to Chart B only.
