Default Race suits

Ordering a driving suit this week.

Just wondering what preferences the club racers here have? I'm considering the Momo 3-layer suit. Sparco and Alpinestars seem to be popular, though a bit more $$.

I have a sparco 3 layer ... fits me well, gives me nice freedom of movement and didn't look as dorky on me as some of the other suits I tried on

Red Rich. Red is your color. BTW, will you be at WGI for Cups/Saucers?

Thanks for the input guys.

Hi Mike,

Cancelled my registration for "cups & saucers" as I am advised the car probably won't be ready in time. Patti Torre was very nice, she said that if anything changes I should let her know by as late as 5/14 and I can still participate; but I doubt that I'll have the car in time for 5/17. I'm hoping to have the car rolling and semi-sorted for the June club race at WGI.

Now, I don't know about a red driving suit. I understand if you wear a red suit you have to buy those tiny flying reindeer to pull the car. Anyway, the new track car is red. That's enough red I think.

See you soon.

lol.. my suit is Black and white (and my car is red).. The legs and bottom are black but top is white.. I figured the black bottoms would help hide the dirt more..

I have a Sparco 3 layer which is very nice but (surprise here) its not as comformtable as my 3 layer GForce (which cost me 25% what the sparco costs...). They even have an online outlet store.

...no affiliation, just a happy customer.

i like my omp "trend" suit. it doesn't have those "abba-from-80's" shoulder pad wings....

it's all white. i know, will get dirty quicker, but.... SO WHAT??? i'm not doing runway shows with it.....

to avoid wearing nomex undies, you have to get the 3 layer. that makes it hot as hell in the summer. i guess a coolsuit is a great addition. that being said, when it's 95+ outside in july/august, i'm glad that there isn't a single dark spot on the suit.

Which G-Force suit do you have? I was looking at a deal on a 2005 Sparco suit but thought the GForce might be a better way to go.

I'm pretty sure its a 545 which would be a 2 layer (not 3 sorry if I misled you). Its shaped very well and has a nice stretch area in the lower back whihc makes it fit very well.

Juan,

If that's the suit I checked out (per your recommendation), they say although it's a 2-layer suit, it is safety rated (SFI-5) the same as a 3-layer suit, so you can get by without the nomex undies.

I'm pretty sure that any SFI3.2/A5 suit is allowed by most organizations, 2 or 3 layer.

One thing that I find curious, the Gforce 505 is an SFI-5 suit but has a TPP of 26 while the more expensive (and better looking) 545 has a TPP of only 11. Sparco does not even list the TPP rating for their suits. Is this a useless number to people when shopping suits? My understanding is that the higher the TPP rating the more time you have before second degree burns.

TPP rating was important to me when shopping for a suit. I went with a Simpson 33 because they are very open about publishing their TPP numbers. I believe Nascar mandates a TPP of 38.
