One of the unique things about Thunderhill is that during the dry season you can easily light the infield on fire with your exhaust. Most drivers meetings will include a caution to keep the car rolling, slowly, if you go off and into the grass.

ya, i was away of that but i had stalled the car! the engine just kept turning over but didn't start. finally i just pumped the gas pedal while staring and the engine fired up. just a little scorching on the lower part of the rear bumper.

Karlooz: Was that off at turn 8? What happened?

I'll be there this Friday, and could benefit from your experience.

It looks like he went straight off in 15 from the photo.

Anyone else besides Jack, Bodhi and myself going to be there Friday? Jack, are you racing with us over the weekend?

haha, benefit from other's misfortunes. you know the best way to learn how to go off is to do it yourself just kidding.

my "off" was between T14 and T15. it was power oversteer. my corner entry speed was fine, maybe even a little slow but i powered out of the turn too hard.

with T8, i find that you have to ise the inside berm.. not beside the berm but on the berm. this will give you the biggest possible turn radius and more speed. it's a butt clincher of a turn though.

there's new pavement at the exit of turns 8, 11/12, and 14. you can use this new pavement runoff if the NCRC officials don't cone it off. you can "cheat" make T14,15 into one large radius turn rather than 2 apexes giving you higher exit speeds and taking the new pavement at 11/12 straightens out the esses.

Thanks, Karlooz. I don't think my car has enough torque to worry about power oversteer in turn 15 assuming typical entry speeds.

I couldn't tell what turn it was from the orientation of the photo. With the extra track section with the bumps, I assumed it was the new section around turn 8.

Turn 8 is definitely a butt clincher. I'm starting to enter the turn faster (lifting later before turn entry) each time I go out there, but still way slower than you I'm sure.

Has power oversteer out of 15 been a problem in the past? Or, was it mainly the traction conditions that day?

i believe it was the second session of the day for me. it was warm but wasn't hot yet. my tires were new so that could have played a role. 911's can really put the power down because or the rear weight bias but i guess it went too far.

i had just passed an m3 after chasing him down for a few laps and this happened. embarrassing.

No, I'm only there Friday.

I'm coming up for an early-911 car show (R Gruppe), so even for the Friday event, I'll be in 100% street car mode with no wing and some very old street tires.

I don't want to go so fast that I damage the new paint:
