The pvc pipe ideas were good, but it didn't keep the lower portion of the window pushed out tight against the weatherstrip. So I came up with this:
3 strips of velcro stuck to the bottom of the window, looped up over a rubber wedge, and adhered to the inside of the door. The velcro keeps the wedge in place, and when removed from the car all that remains is the small velcro hook patches on the inside of the door. The window is tight against the weatherstrip sealing out water. I drove about 30 miles with the car on the trailer, and the windows didn't budge.
Total cost, about $40. Total weight savings, 30 pounds.
