I was wondering if 95 s is better to either 29 at Washington (but the map doesn't show a direct connect)
Or 95 S to Richmond and picking up 360, but again looks like a another route needs to be picked up but my map is not showing this.
Anyone done this before?

I live in central NJ and have tried both the I-95 route and Harrisburg/I-81 route
I-95 is very busy. The worst traffic is south of DC near Fredricksburg VA. Last time we took that route (2 years ago), we spent 1 hr going 20 MPH just because of over-crowded roads.
The Harrisburg/I-81 route is much easier. From my home, it's 30 miles longer than the I-95 route, but we make that up in time and relaxation. I take I-81 to Roanoke and then drive to Danville via Martinsville. The Nascar race is at Martinsvile next week so you might want to re-think that route. If you go that way and need to get to the east-side of Danville on Thursday night, take the *new* by-pass arround the south side of Danville.
There's anouther route I have not taken: I-81 to I-64 and then at Charlottesville take 29 S. Also, I've heard there's a by-pass arround Lynchburg that speeds that trip up. I'll probably try that route this year.

Given my I-95 experiences, I would need a gun to my head to go that route!

The fastes way from Central NJ is 95 to Richmond - pick up 360 to 58. Leave by 8 AM and you will avoid all of the DC debacle. You can make some serious time on 95 but on 58 watch your speed!!!! I generally get that trip done in 7.5 hours with 2 fuel stops and a quick lunch break. Good Luck, Have a blast. Wish I were going again.

Having gone to VIR at least six times from Delaware I think I have the plan down. Of course all bets are off if there is an accident on I95 but.......The key is to hit Baltimore no later than 12:00. You get to richmond by 3:00 but no later!!! That puts you on 360/Powhite expway and down to 58 through SouthBoston to VIR track by 6:00 easy. Not a bad drive lots of gas stations along the way. See you there! Weather forcast so far looks exceptional!!! Jon

Thanks for the info. We came back RT 29 to 66 to 95 and it was 7.5 hrs with 2 stops. I think I will give it a shot heading down instead of 95 to 360. See you there, drive safe and Get-R-Done.
Say hello. I'm in aWhite 951 S #890 in White.
