TD: The Hippocratic oath you reproduced is a beautiful thing and thank you for resurrecting it. Interestingly, after surviving the vicssitudes of over 2000 years of Western civilization, it fell victim to the recent forces of political correctness. Unfortunately, I doubt that oath, as presented, has been given to an American medical school graduate in several decades.

Here, here.

I won't bore readers with the detals, but we (well, not Isaac, another firm I was affiliated with) were once caught up in mass tort litigation involving a structural implant and were sued over 100 times. The plaintiff lawyers downloaded graphics from Ralph Nader's web site and ran ads advertising free coffee, free donuts and free money. We were not only sued by people who did not have our implant, we were sued by people who did not have any implant.

We took every case to the mat and never lost. People should be required to put their money where their mouth is.

And there are surgeons who will not perform on attorneys and anyone who is in the immediate family of an attorney. Of course, they will never admit that...

I took it in 1991!
As of now, still given at the University of Kansas Medical School upon graduation.
FWIW, lawyers make up the single largest occupation of my patients(NYC), if I dropped them, I'd go out of business. One of my first complications in practice was on one of the biggest personal injury lawyers in NY, just gotta treat them like everybody else, when you start doing things different bc they're an atty, that's when you make mistakes.

Chris: You guys in Kansas rock! The prohibtions against abortion, euthanasia and assited suicide in the oath, as presented, made it verboten at CWRU in the 70's.

Your practice sounds interesting but I'm still not sure why anyone would desire to have PI attorneys in their practive, home or car. But hey, that's just me. : )

BTW, does anyone have additional info on the legal protections of PBOC. I have e-mailed BV but have not received a reply.

If PI attorneys did not exist, I, as an insurance defense lawyer, would have to find something else to do.

Jack, I don't desire pi's in my practice, it's just a fact of life practicing in Manhattan. FWIW, while there are some pi's, most are corp/real estate/prosecuters/etc, even a few judges.

I think we need Posner to weigh in. I am pretty sure he would say there is an efficient level of DE problems.

pedsurg, it was an inside joke for the attorneys. Posner is a noted Circuit Court of Appeals Justice that has written extensively on tort liability viz. law and economics. I too was trying to lighten the mood so to speak. I am the ultimate evil in the 21st century. Patent attorney in training.

Yeah, he sounds familiar. Conservative icon if I'm not mistaken.
Best of luck tonight.
Are you at the UF Law school?
