I wondered about the issue after I started getting a lot of flack for planning to put 10.5 and 12.5" slicks on my car. Lot's of folk volunteered that I'd never get them to heat up, too much rubber for the car, etc. Having put them on the car, I can assure you that (1) they can get heated up just fine (2) they stick a hell of a lot better than the stock tires and (3) they are a lot faster than stock tires. So, I don't believe that (within the limits of what you can buy) there is such a thing as too much rubber. My little putt-putt is 300 hp at the flywheel and 2750 lbs (with me and some gas included).
