Default What custom offsets for a 3.2 Carrera?

Hi folks,

Well my 74 Carrera E car is sold and I'm looking on coming to F (since it has the best drivers!!) I'm very close on getting into a 3.2 Carrera. I think it's my best option right now if I want to keep true to the 911 and remain within my budget.

The car is not fully developed though and I was thinking of putting 245 and 275 Hoosiers on 8" and 9" 17s. Custom wheels from CCW or similar.

I'm also going with the FULL Elephant Racing suspension and race headers.

My question is: What offset do I ask for to fit these babies?

Many thanks
Lefty

I ran 23mm neg in the front and 15mm neg in the rear. I found that the rear was very close to the fender and probably wanted a few more mm negative, but then you wind up moving & flattening the oil lines and grinding down the trailing arm bolt heads.

I had them custom made by HRE when nobody knew who they were (back in 95). Only $425 per wheel back then. They were black 5 spokes & looked pretty good on my Carrera.

Lefty, Rick Betterly just listed 2 sets for sale of used fikse in the 3.2 carrera offset. He posts on the racing e-mail list.

These are off of my 1984 911, but will also fit all 911s from 1978-1989 and up to 1986 844s according to Fikse; not sure of other models.
Wheels and prices are as follows (+ shipping); 5% of the sale price will be donated to RennList.
*** 1 set of Fikse FM-10s good as new; silver finish; 2-7.5 x 17" shod with
225/45 (new; heat cycled) and 2-9x17" with 255/40 (less than 10% wear) MPSC tires - $2,5300 including tires, $2,200 without. Offsets are +37mm front,
+18mm rear
*** 1 set of Fikse FM-10s almost as good as new, but with some scratches on the rim of the outboard flange from tire mounting but hardly noticeable from 5' away; a very subtle gold finish which looks great on most color cars, including red, black, white, etc.; 2-8x17" shod with 225/45 (less than 25%
wear) and 2-9x17" 255/40 (less than 25% wear) MPSC tires - $2,000 including tires, $1,800 without. Offsets are +31mm front, +18mm rear Tires (not mounted) are also + shipping and RennList gets 5%:
*** 2-255/40/17 - new; heat cycled $250/pair
*** 1-225/45/17 worn about 50% or so - $75 obo Pictures available if interested.

T,
A 3.2? Your going to feel real bad getting beat by all the S2's in F The 3.2 911 is a great car and you already know how to drive the rear engine beast. Looking forward to some good battles this season! Many of us run the CCW 3pc. wheels, new they are the same price as a set of used Fikse (2000.00) Great wheel and outstanding customer service.

Hmmm. Rick says his offsets are +37mm front, +18mm rear. Two different answers. Now I'm confused!

Eric,

When one engine rebuild on the 944S2 = what I paid for this 3.2 I think that ANY S2 driver will feel pretty bad if they finish behind me!

I think it's the best choice for me and I think the 3.2 can go quick, maybe even quicker than my white car. A 3.2 won at RA last year so it can be done.

Lefty, it is pretty simple. For the front, I ran a 23mm offset on an 8" wheel. If you remove 1/2 an inch from the outside of the wheel, like with Rick's 7.5s, you have shifted the offset more negative by 1/2 inch or 13mm. 13+23=36mm offset. As for the rears, he has a little more negative offset (3mm) like I suggested.

I ran CCW 17x 8 + 9 on an 86 Carrera. Offset was 32MM front and 13MM Rear 5.75" Back spacing F&R. 225X45 17 front and 255X40 17 rear. Tight but I did not have to roll fenders.

I ran Kinesis 7.5/9 on an 84. the fronts had a 32mm off set and the rears had 15mm. They fit perfect. I am having two sets of Kodiaks made up now in the same widths with 30mm front and 15mm rear.

Cheers

Hey some of you guys are talking about me (or, my wheels, that is). They are actually sold already, but the offsets are as described (these were Fikse's offset recomendations). Fit very nice and snugly.
New car is ex-Al Coleman 993; arriving next week. Can't wait to finally see it.
