Vinyl (not static cling) will definitely not fall off in wet weather. It sticks like mad until it gets dirty after a number of applications and removals. Last season I used mine for 5 or 6 events, wet and dry, and had no problems.

My mistake. I meant static cling.

Removable shelf liner is a cheap way to go too. Easy to get and easy to cut. Make a template of your # and cut a stack all at once with a sharp razorblade. Use once and discard.

Kurt,

What do you mean by "removable shelf liner"?? As in the stuff you put on cupboard shelves? Is this a Home Depot-like find? Thanks.

Yup, contact paper available at Home Depot. NOT the light-adhesive style, but rather the full strength. I follow the advice given here to buy a bunch of vinyl numbers (got mine from www.mrletter.com) then cut a bunch of white circles out of contact paper with a dish plate. Just mount the numbers to the contact paper and slap the set on your car. Comes off super easy, and won't hurt your paint or finish. My $100+ magnetics are now staying on my fridge.

For a while I was actually cutting numbers out of contact paper, but that's a HUGE pita. Not worth the hassle.

Hi Kurt,
I tried shelf liner (contact paper) and it requires lots of compound and time to get the residue off the car.

Yup, Homerdepot. Be carefull and test first. Some is full stick and some is "removable" Make a stiff template and cut a stack of sheets off the roll and cut all at once. A little less tedious than the Sharpe and scissors sitting in front of the TV thing.

Strange, I always use contact paper (full strength) and I have never once had any residue left behind, even after 3 days in the rain. But you might get adhesive residue if you never wax your car. A buddy of mine tried the light-tack removeable contact paper and his numbers fell off in just a couple hours. All stuff from Home Depot.

I got a whole set of those numbers that used car dealers put on the cars. They are static cling for the windows. I'm going to test them out in a couple of weeks. Should be intresting to say the least.
