BMW Club mandates head and neck restraints
Don't know if this is old news or not but the BMW club now mandates H&N

Effective April 1, 2006, all racers must use a Head and Neck Restraint meeting
SFI 38.1 standards. As of December 1, 2005, the following devices have been
approved under the SFI 38.1 standard:
HANS - (888) 426-7999 - www.hansdevice.com
R3 Device - (800) 731-4404 - www.lfttech.com
Hutchens II - (800) 731-4404 - www.hutchensdevice.com
BMW CCA Club Racing will be the first amateur road racing organization to
mandate the use of these devices; we will not be the last. These devices are
currently required for most, if not all, professional racing series in the
country.
Remember our first concern is your safety.

NASA made mention of this as early as the start of last year as warning for the 2006 season.
As of now NASA does not require a H&N device, but maybe by the summer? If they do it will be SFI38.1 device.
Not for NASA this would apply to racing only and not DE.

This photo is from an old NHIS Club Race back in 2000, not last years, thats me in the little blue car. I gotta say Turn 1 always scared the crap outta me on that NASCAR oval.

Sorry gang,
I never ran with PCA since I didn't own a Porsche until this week( I just bought an '05 997S). I've ran BMW CCA events since 1991 and have seen it all long before the HANS device was around and the hits some folks got away with.
This happend in front of me a Pocono a few years back. The guy in the Silver E36 M3 was driving way way way over his head. He hit the wall head on very hard, and I saw the whole thing play out. He broke his neck, and both of his legs. I'm sure a HANS device would have saved his neck. I'm all for it if it can save or protect a life

The Viper Racing league mandated H&N restraints 2 years ago and firmed them up last year. Each driver is also required to practice fire drills 3 times a year and are timed by a VRL official.
The Viper Racing League is now running under the performance Racing League umbrella and welcomes other marques at all events. It's a no contact series that has graduated the last 2 Rookies of the Year in Speed World Challenge - GT
