This question is highly dependent on your experience level. I will assume intermediate to experienced driver:

30k and under: 964
50k and under: 964
75k and under: 964
100k and under: GT3

I'm also assuming you will keep it around and ultimately race it in a stock PCA class.

Fully track prepped and still street legal 944's or 944 Turbo's can be had for less than $15k if you shop around. Then, use the extra 15k on track time and lots of tires.

Fully race prepped 944 spec car go for under 12k. In fact a the best car with spares up the wazo and trailers go for 15k. BTW... a stripped out 944 is great learning tool. Search for threads by TDinDC. He has a 996 and considered a GT3, but got a stripped out race prepped 944. Figured he would learn more with the low hp car and have safer car too boot (car has full cage and I think is race legal). He Loves it.

What part of the country are you in?

I don't know about the midrange prices but at the bottom end is the 944 Turbo. Awesome learning car and alot of others (at least at my tracks) to race against.

At the high end is the 996 GT-3 cup car.
