GEICO and DE Coverage
#2
You need to read your policy, specifically the exclusions. For years most policies only excluded "timed" events or "competitive" events. Several companies have changed them recently to exclude track days and DE's. Your agent will not necessarily tip off the carrier but will likey tell you that there is no coverage. I know many folks who have coverage but dont want to risk their auto policies so they buy track coverage from one of the carriers in Pano. Good luck to you.

I was with Geico for seventeen years and switched over to State Farm after I was told this:

Mel. As long as I am not racing, car will be covered. >>> After checking with claims, they consider DE’s to be racing. May cover damages but might not renew policy.
So, Geico considers DE's top be racing and may present problems in the future.
I have since switched back to Geico after getting American Collectors Insurance for DE. I saved about $1300 over State Farm for two cars, a few properties and some additional jewelry coverage. I figured I was never going to make a claim with SF on the track. Why pay extra for it?

this is a touchy topic. i know some ppl got paid by ins. but can't renew policy later. and when they try to get a new policy wiht another company, the new company ususally wants a letter of experience from prior ins. ..... of course your prior ins will likely disclose reason why they won't renew your policy.
realizing that, i decided to track cars that i am willing to pay 100% out of my pocket, that's just me and i am paranoid.

Mooty, if you are going to do that, at least get DE insurance from American Collectors. That way you are only out of pocket for 10% of the loss, and it costs just $15 per thousand. And no claim will appear as part of your regular insurance. BTW I have my car covered with State Farm, and my son had an incedent at the track, and they paid for it. Not only did they renew me with no extra charges, but they gave him a policy on his new 4Runner, though it does cost HIM extra for one at-fault accident. A small price to pay.

thanks larry. i will chk with american collector before i am out on track next round.
it's good to know state farm was there when you needed them. i do have state farm as well. i was told they WILL cover it. BUT, i like to see that as a back up. i want to be prepared that when sh*t hits the fence and SOMEHOW they wiggle out of it, i have something to wipe my A** with.

Good thread, does AmCollector let you buy on a per event basis or as I suspect an annual basis. I ask b/c I am only able to do about 3-4 DE weekends a year. TIA

To have American Collectors you have to have primary surance on the vehicle from another carrier. I have State Farm and for the first time this renewal period there is a change in language that does exclude coverage for off road and closed circuit driving.
