Thanks for that link.
Best of luck next season with Rotax/TAG. My son (12) is moving up next year from 80cc Cadet to FR125 Jr Rotax. New kart is in the garage........now just wait for April for the snow to melt and the track to open!

Absolutely awesome video. God how it brings back good memories of many sorts. It also should dispell for folks any need they may think they have to race a shifter kart vs a single speed kart.

I remember that race, it is awesome!

Back then, every year Eurosport had indoor karting (with big names from Formula 1 etc.), supercross from Percy stadium and it was always great to watch!

Hmm, someone else has been monitoring ekarting forum, or vice versa! just watched this video over there.
Getting ready to head to Daytona on the 26th for the 2006 season opener of WKA. My son is racing in cadet and Yamaha jr. sports.
Just saw that Derek Daly's son will be there although since he's 14 we won't be racing him.

Quick question: If a 245 pound load like me got a Kart (shifter or otherwise), would I be racing 100 pounders thereby giving myself a 145 pound penalty on an exceptionally light overall weight vehicle, or is there "gross weight leveling"?

It's a disadvantage, though not as big as 145 lbs. Each class has a minimum weight. So if you were racing in, for example, a Yamaha "heavy" class which has a minimum weight of 375lbs, you'd be working hard to get your kart down to 130lbs. You could probably get pretty close to that, but still may be giving away 15-20 lbs. To turn it around, most drivers have bolted on a lot of lead to make weight...

Great video. I was never a Senna fan but I have to say that I miss him for his talent and what he brought to the sport.

I've seen that epic Villeneuve/Arnoux battle. For second place! Utterly insane and on a whole 'nother plane with the wheel banging. Absolutely inspiring.

Senna was once quoted as saying 'karting is the purest form of motorsports'
