Default Random starting problem

My 89 S2 when warm will sometimes not start. No ryme or reason why and than after many tries it will just start. There is always fire but I have never smelled a gas smell. It happened on the grid at Road America and when it finally started the whole grid was at the kink.??? Any one have the same problem and figure it out?

Have you tried the DME relay? Next time it dosent start make a three way jumper wire and connect terminals 30, 87, and 87b of relay, you should hear fuel pump run, try to start it if still no start then its time to check for spary to plugs. And injector pulse, which will require a noid light, available at most parts stores.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, I will try that. My fuel pump is running when I have the problem. This weekend I am going to test the air box and maybe replace the speed sensor.

My 83 NA does the same thing when hot, especially after a run session. When cold it fires right up. I'm leaning towards reference sensors.
