Cold cracking?
Who here have experienced "cold cracking" with their race slicks? What do you do to avoid that in the winter months out west given the low overnight temperatures?

yes I have had it happened to me! It is a pain in the ***!! I leave car on a set of worn out junk, all good/new tires are in the basement with a tarp over them (ozone from electic motors is also bad for rubber).
The worse problem is getting to Sebring in Feb. I hope for a warm snap and take a chance with one set of used for practice and buy one new set at the race

I just spoke to Cathy at Bob Woodman tires about this yesterday. She told me that they have experienced their race tires cracking just by going through a deep cold cycle. The contraction of the rubber at low temperatures is the culprit. Anyway, she told me that the tires need to be stored at 50 or above. They won't ship any tires north if the temps drop below 45.
