I think it would be a toss up as to whether I would prefer street tires (SO3s) or MPSC in cool weather. Streets will be a little more stable and predictable. I was at Road America in the 50 -55 degree range, and the tires never warmed up. Granted, it is not a tire warming track, but, if you go with MPSCs, be REALLY careful, especially at a track like LC, that can bite you. I only wish I were going!

So your expecting rain AND temps in the 50's yet you still want to use MPSCs?? No disrespect intended, but I'd honestly consider that foolish. Having run both MPSCs and Dunlop SSRs, there's absolutely no question that SSR's are the way to go. I wouldn't dare run MPSC's in those conditions. SSR's luuuuuv 50-60 degree weather. Just mho. Have fun, wish I were you!

I agree with Eric. I've ran on both, and prefer Dunlops for cooler weather. They tend to heat up quickly and at higher temperatures get greasy fairly fast. At 50-60 degrees, they should be perfect...

TheOtherEric: it was dry for 3/4 of the event (lucky me). the first day was cool yet sunny, all day. second day was dry for the first half but then the rains came. i left the track after a miata had spun right in front of me, i knew my day was done. ya, you are right. i should have put the DSSRs on but the MPSCs actually came up to temperature.. well.. high enough to get to proper pressures anyway.

Eli K: i definitely will swap the tires for the early_in_the_year events. i too have found the DSSRs get hot fast and greasy when too hot.

earlyapex: got home safely although my nerves are shot. white knuckle ride home in the rain and now almost bald MPSCs. it's weird, LS is predominantly left turns but i worked my driver's side tire more than the passenger side. i guess i was too chicken on T5 and T6. i defintely was taking T3,4,8A and 10 more aggressively. i guess because it has more runoff

Glad you made it home safely. You can use this day to convince your wife that a trailer and tow vehicle are necessary safety items!

I ran two sessions in the soaking wet after you left. The RA-1s were wonderful. Too bad they don't make them in the sizes you need.

When is the next track event for you?

You can show me the line at Infineon next year!

RA1 DOES have sizes for 996C2.
the rear is 275 width. it WILL work, all the fast guys who run toyo on 996's use that size.

ya, 275s will work on 18x10s but i have 11s. i would have to go 305s yes, the 275s would be too stretched? with the kinesis k18s i just picked up (gt3 offsets) i would have to dial in more camber, raise the ride height and roll the fenders more. with the 305s the diameter has also increased by 1 inch. i guess that may not be a big deal if i match the front diameter to the rear. right now i have 295 MPSCs at the rear and they barely fit, no rubbing.
