Porsche mugging of GTO??--Spoiler

Best race of the season...!
It's all fair game...Lally's first move set the tone and Murry did the right thing..waiting for an official to give a penalty to Lally is just insane...not gona happen and Murry would look like a crybaby trying to plead his case.

The bottom line is that Lally made a move where contact was inevitable and a pass was likely.
David reciprocated with a similar move, but it was simply more spectacular.
If Lally passed Murry cleanly, and David made the same move, then it would have been inappropriate.
Did murry intentionally jump the car? No, but he did intentionally go over the curb - Just Like Andy did.
Did murry intentionally spin Lally? No, but the contact was intentional - Just like andy did.
Lally's intentions the previous turn were the same, and they deserved the same penalty, IMO as neither overtaking car would have made the turn without leaning on the other.
I guess, it all comes down to how a person interprets Lally's pass. I saw inevitable contact and base my opinion on that. If someone else saw something different, then they would naturally come to a different conclusion.
I think if positions were reversed (Lally was leading Murry) the same thing would have happened - both incidents. These guys are paid to win. Call it dirty, but call both moves dirty.
I think Grand Am made an excellent decision, as you can't penalize someone for being More Wrong. Avoidable contact is avoidable contact regardless of the result. Give them both a 1-minute penalty, and Murry still comes out on top. (he lead the previous lap)
And Grand Am is hardly "anything goes." One minute penalties (essentially 1 lap) were handed for punting on a regular basis. And a repeat offender got a one race suspension.

And the GA ref makes the call:
"Spearing, . . . # 80, . . . defense, . . . penalty declined because he bumped him earlier."
I guess the question at hand is: Is all "contact" equal or deserve equal penalty.

I watched the race on Speed and I have to agree with Leh. Both moves were aggresive but I think Lally set the standard. The lesson is: Don't dish it out if you can't take it.
BTW, does anyone watch SuperCup? Talk about aggressive! Those guys trade more paint than a couple of NastyCar boys.

I think a lot of folks here would see it differently if Lally was in the Porsche and Murry was in the Goat.
At least Lally's contact was pretty much side to side and I think that was a racing incident, even if it was foreseeable.
Murry however needed tower clearance and did a belly flop into Lally. Hell, why even pretent to take corners. Let's just drive over the grass and pound people. Hell, the Cayenne could become the Porsche to race. "What do you mean corners? What corner?"
