Default Buyer Beware of TNT Aluminum Trailers

Last November, I ordered a trailer from this company. I sent in a deposit ($8,000) and canceled the trailer the day after I wired the deposit. There was nothing in the contract that said the dealer could keep any of my money, but I never received any of it back.

http://www.tntaluminumtrailer.com

The company is in Cumberland Virginia. The owner is Tony Stout. He would return my calls so I had to hire an attorney. Apparently in Virigina, the attorney can take a fee and a percentage, so i was charged 30% of anything they recover and a minimum fee of $1,500. I was able to get a judgement from the court, but the guy has no attachable assets. I called the Cumberland Sheriff's office and was told he is still making trailers, but my attorney says this is little he can do.

Please share this with any and everyone who is in the racing community. If I can't get my money back, maybe in the end, he will get his!!!

The bad thing about being an honest person is you think everyone else has the same level of honesty.

Jim,
Can you still force him to deliver a trailer? Probably could have bought and sold it for less that the attorney costs. I know it is not just the money but the principle of the whole ordeal.

No attachable assets ? The guy doesn't have a checking account ? They attach those in other states. It sounds like your attorney maybe didn't do his homework. I always thought that with those contingency arrangements the attorney doesn't collect anything up front, that keeps them from taking cases like yours where there's no money to be found.

Good luck and thanks for the heads up. Maybe the owner will have a change of heart about this.
I'll keep this in mind when shopping for my next trailer(Which is now by the way).

The guy has an email address on his web site. Would it help if we all sent him a nice message?

If he's still making trailers, he's got tools and equipment...

Call the BBB and everyone else you can think of in town.

Is he near VIR? We'll be there in a couple of weeks and can pay him a visit...

Yeh Buddy;

If we all start e-mailing this clown, he might get the hint that he is getting trashed in the larger community and come good for some or all of his obligation.

I got ripped off by a guy named Dan Helman in Winter Park Florida last year for $800. Guys like him and your trailer guy need to get theirs one way or another. If any one of us can be of help in burning these arseholes, it does us ALL good.

Principles DO matter.

I was told the attorney has already attached the checking account. I thought about the trailer or tools but the attorney says you can't do that???? I would go straight to owner, but the jerk won't return my calls or emails.

I wish all you guys would email, call or just plain let him know that "us guys" stick together.

I appreciate the feedback.

It's funny how the law protects the guilty.

Subject: Rip Off Artist?

Hey Tony;
Hundreds of us racers and track junkies on Rennlist just found out that you ripped off a buddy of ours. You know, a lot of guys on that forum have really big mouths when somebody they like is getting screwed. Everybody sees, and everybody knows.
He's a stand-up guy, but apparently you are not. Why don't you just do the right thing and either refund the guy his $8000 friggin deposit, or build him his damn trailer?
Are there two sides to this story, or only yours? Guys like you have lots of stories. How important is a good reputation and word of mouth to you? Let's see... the note was posted tonite at 9pm, and already 230 people have read it. Think fast, dude! It's slipping away.

Here's my email. I'm going to forward this post to my buddy at Corner Carvers for him to get them going. They don't play as nice either. LOL

Hey Guy,

I'm one of hundreds if not thousands by now that knows what's going on with you holding a fellow racer/car enthusiasts money. Talk about poor business practices?

What up with not refunding the money ($8000)?

You can't sweep this under the rug. We're talking about it being on the internet and several forums where thousands of people read it about it everyday. And not just car people buy trailers. Anybody who's interested in buying a trailer will know about this shortly.

Do the right thing and either send the money back or build the trailer.
