Corvette C6 Z06 runs 7:43 at the Ring
From Chief Engineer Dave Hill's mouth:
After a long discussion on all the various times of different (Non-Corvette) cars around the ring, using 8:00 as the benchmark for "world class" performance Dave announced:
A 2005 C6 turned the 'Ring in 7:59! (yes 7:59, NOT 7:56!!)
A 2004 C5 ZO6 did it in the already known 7:56
and the 2006 ZO6, driven by Jan Magnusson drove it in........
7:43
Dave said this time was already available on the net so it was not part of the August embargo.
Also it was NOT the Blue Devil.

Wow, I can remember like it was yesterday, when Phil Hill first broke the 9 minute barrier, in a Ferrari F1 car. Times sure change.

Great times. The new Z will be one helluva car. My C5 Z is a blast and very good at DEs. Some competition will be good for Porsche. The new Cayman will be a great car and has lots of room to bump HP and is priced within shouting distance of a loaded Vette and the new Z06 base car.

I have some serious doubts about the Cayman being able to come close to the Z06. Trackwise, I think the C5 and C6 Z06's are incredibly hard to beat for the money. My problem is that I would need add an item to my track budget for "Depends" based on the specs that the Z06 C6 is displaying.
I'll stick to the 250 hp for now, and appreciate the Z's from a distance.

Chevrolet did an awesome job on this vehicle. they properly propelled this vehicle into supercar status for $80K
I cant afford one.
But It would be in my stable if I was wealthy enough, just because its a Chevy in the 7 Minute club @ the 'Ring.
