The Solution;
Two of these little beauties should do the trick. EDIT"MIC"EDIT 1/8 jack input, 2w output with pot. 12v DC.
Finding the part you need?
<$50 with shipping.
Opening up further opportunities for learning... and BUILDING stuff?

Don't think that's what you want, John.
Looking at the board and reading your description, this sounds like a line amp; takes audio at line in levels and drives a speaker at 2W with a vol control pot.
What you need is a pre-amp that takes low level mic signal and delivers 1vp-p line out audio. Jack posted a link earlier.
You do the welding, just leave the soldering to us, OK?
