Default How do you guys clean the rear window?

In particular, how do you guys clean the rear windows when there's a rollbar back there? I've had my DAS since January, and I have to bribe my 10-year old to squeeze back there to clean the windows. Also, since I have fixed seats (Sparco Evos) the room to get back is even further reduced.

I'm looking for some creative solutions! Thanks, guys.

Rich

Yep, I use a small kid on the end of a long handle... :-)

Actually, you can now buy a glass cleaning wand specifically for cleaning hard to reach window glass.

Of course, the 944 and 928 crowd usually don't have this specific problem...

IIRC, this was asked a while back and the answer I remember was the use of the Griot's Garage microfiber glass cleaning kit (MF towels and a triangular shaped handle/extention):
http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog....1001&SKU=90247

I don't own one, as my rear window is Lexan and can be removed, not as easily as a 944!) when cleaning is required.

Wanna make it even harder? Try cleaning and polishing a lexan while having the same setup as yours and a full roll cage. I just stare at it for minutes trying to figure it out, before giving up.

I never thought about the live and breathing 7 year old wand, thanks for the tip, I'll get mine on the job now

Depends on how thin & how flexible you are.

I realized that it's easier to get your hand (and rag) down to the base of the rear window, close to the rear deck, when your hand is inverted - palm up. I then realized that if I put the passenger seat all the way forward, and lie on my back, over the lower horizontal pole of the DAS, I can wriggle underneath the upper horizontal bar & the cross braces, and reach up & get pretty much the entire rear glass from that position.

When your nearest 5 year old glass cleaner is 1,200 miles away, you've got to be creative.

Holy cow, Robert, you must be a Yoga instructor to do that. At 5'9" and 188, I can not even squeeze behind the Evos even when they are pulled all the way forward (which really isn't much due to the inside of the seats hitting the center console). I'll have my daughter try your technique. Thanks a lot.

Well, aside from 5'11" and 172#, I have the stock passenger seat. So I can get it a lot further forward & tilt the seatback forward which helps.

I'll still bet I could do it with Evos, though!

I once got almost stuck between my bucket seats and roll bar trying to clean the rear window...

I've used my 10 year old breathing wand but that Griot thing seems like a great idea!

I take it to the car wash and get them to do it.

I have the same set up (das bar & racing seats) but my passenger side is on sliders so I think they slide it forward and sqeeze back there some how.

Haven't tried this but how about squeeking an arm back there to spray on the glass cleaner then using a Swiffer to wipe it off? (I'm in the don't do it, don't need to camp... too fast... no need to look out the back window )
