Default Spec 944 - Florida?

Hey There,

I'm thinking about getting back into racing, and like the idea of racing other drivers vs racing their cars.

Soooooo, the Spec 944 class (nasa?) looks pretty good to me.

Question: are there many spec 944's in florida?

how about NA 944's, are there many running pboc, nasa, or pca?

(last nasa event, looked like mostly turbo 944's, or S2's)

The spec miata's looks good too, but the door banging in scca is problem.

any other ideas on "safe affordable racing" ? (*yes, I know it IS an oxymoron)

thanx, mrBill.

no 944 spec cars in Flordia.

There is 944 cup which uses a different rule structure. In general car prep for 944 cup is a more expensive. Can't really comment on speed as we have never run on the same tracks. Idea for the seres is similar.

I don't have data on 944 cup cars, but

944-spec car cost about 10k to buy complete and ready to race.
They can be built for less or more than that depending on how much work you do yourself and how pretty you want the car to be.
Winning 944-spec cars can be built in your back yard with no special knowledge required.
Motors are stock to the point where junkyard motors are competitive.
Tires are spec and long lasting so that cuts a major expense.
Competitve cars can be street legal and driven to and from the track although a number of folks tow.

944 spec info is at http://944spec.com
944 Cup info is at http://www.44cup.com
Both run with NASA

Mr bill:

944 Cup is designed for PCA legal 944/924S and/or SCCA ITS 944's. There are slightly different rules and minimum weights depending on which way your car is set up. Some S2's and 951's run in the "Supercup" class, but you may have seen a GTS challenge race that many higher horsepower and more highly modded 944's run in.

The southeast division runs Roebling, Road Atlanta (I think), Daytona, CMP, VIR (run jointly with the Mid-Atlantic region) and maybe some others

Car count was 25 for the race at CMP two weeks ago. Lots of people to race with...

Check out www.44cup.com for more information and rules, etc. Lots of competitve cars are available fully set up (cage, suspension, etc.) for right about $10k or less.

Ok, thanks.

I looked into some PBOC(florida) results, but didnt see any finisher in 944cups. guess I need to talk to b.varella and see if there are any entries/drivers. (could they be in R8 ?)

As I remeber the 944 wasnt very competitve in ITS any more...

which is fine, I'd rater run in a 13/13 type group anyway...

Anyone in Florida runing a 944 cup car?

I run in PBOC alot and to my knowledge, there are no 944 Cup cars YET!! I am sure I speak for everyone in PBOC that you are more than welcome to join us. Would be fun to have you out there with us. Besides, you are so close to all the action living in Ft Lauderdale. C'mon out Mr. Bill
