Post Congressional help for Watkins Glen?

http://speedtv.com/articles/auto/autoindustry/16811/

Maybe if I write my congressman, Congress may pay for Lime Rock to be repaved?!

(actually, last time at LRP, I heard that the track is losing money, even after the increase to $12K/PCA track day fee.......and that repaving is nowhere in the plans)

Hmmm. I always wondered why LRP hasn't filed for historic status like Willow Springs did. That would get them some good funds to keep it up and protect it. The biggest hurdle is that the town is against it and the owner hasn't done anything to amend the differences. Frankly, I can't see how LRP is losing money given the new rates.

Cheers, James

James,
From what I was told, the current owner is having issues with cash management. He also is required (by terms of the sale agreement whereby the purchased LRP) to provide Skippy School x number of track days free of charge.....I don't remember the number, but it was a substantial number of days during the driving season.
When I asked about the $12K and repaving, I was told there were NO plans to EVER repave the track. I was under the assumption that the (drastic) increase in prices were for imminent repaving. Apparently that is not the case.
As a reference, PCA DE day at Watkins Glen is $7K.

Bill France vs "what's his name"... Schuyler County (read economically depressed upstate NY) vs one of the wealthiest communities in the US.... its all about clout and need.... LRP has no clout and no need.

Also LRP Sunday ban effectivly cuts their leasable days in half.... not good for revenue generation... too bad... hate to lose another historic track

In a round world, sports car road courses are the dinosaurs of motorsports.... can you say "Bridgehampton"?

Yeh...just great. Just what we needed most at LRP; fewer square inches of pissable volume in the can. What a great way to spend money we are now told they don't have.
