Default Wheel Lug Torque Spec - Econotrailer

Anyone have the torque specs for the lug nuts for an open bed Econotrailer?

The VIN plate with the torques and load info, etc. was painted over long ago by a previous owner. Or is there a generic figure that people would recommend?

Thanks!

Matt,
This has become a major issue with the NTSB because of the number of accidents caused by trailer wheel separation. These are the numbers for my trailer, which is a generic steel 2 axle like yours:

Wheel Nut Torque Requirements
1st Stage 25-35 lbs.- ft. 2nd Stage 50-65 lbs.-ft. 3rd Stage 85 lbs.-ft.

Tony, what do you mean by "stages?" You mean three seperate times I assume... I just didn't want to assume anything!

Yes, the spec calls for three stages of tightening with a torque spec for each stage.

Seems overly fiddly, but having had a wheel come off a trailer [not mine] on 95, it worth doing it right. The wheel in my case was obviously over-torqued. All five studs sheared off at the hub.

I always wondered what they should be....

Mine came with no manual and when I tighten my 930 wheels, I check my trailer wheels at the same 94 lbs-ft. LOL
