I only have a few days to get the bar, seats etc. installed, and don't have the time for powder coating, the bodyshop affliated to the mechanic quoted $250 for sanding/primer and painting. I had read here that someone paid $200 for powder coating, which he says may cost around $500. Is $250 an OK price for painting (I am not looking for a bargain here, if it is average I might go ahead with it, I would have said OK for it, if not for me reading here that powder coating was even cheaper). Offhand it seems a little high to me. I had my whole cage and interior painted for under $700 and these guys came to my wrenches shop to do it. We did most of the prep masking, etc...they did no sanding, but they did to a wipedown and surface prep. Primer + three coats. What kind of paint are you specifying? Is it a custom color?

No, just any black paint, as you may be aware the DAS come bare metal.

I'd just spraycan black it, after the event remove it and have it powdercoated. Last roll bar I saw powdercoated cost $275, and that's for powder which is far more involved to do and a much more durable choice.

I paid about $200 to have my DAS bar prepped and powder coated. Given the difference in labor to prime and paint, $250 doesn't sound too bad (buy DIY would certainly be cheaper).

A semi-gloss black looks best IMO.

Well I am getting the installation etc. done at the mechanic, so there will be extra cost involved in removing the bar/seats etc, but I may talk him about it (by the way this is not my long term mechanic , just had by brake fluids replaced there once).......Just now I called a different place, they quoted me $350 for painting, I said that is too much and the guy goes I can do it for 200...I paused and he says how much do you want to pay? as he can do anything but "you get what you pay for" ...and a cheaper job will just look crappy...so, now a "good" painting job is $350. AAAARGGGGHHH!

Save the expense and use a spray can. Most of the areas immediately visible should be covered in padding anyway.

MM86911 is spot on. I painted mine w/ a couple coats of primer then a couple coats of krylon matte black. Don't laugh... it sound ghetto, but came out nice. It looks just as good as anything I've seen w/ the exception of the powdercoated cages / bars.

If you don't like the look, then you can have a shop do it and you're only out an incremental $20 for paint in the DIY scenario.

way too high. in price inflated california, i paid 150 for powder coating my roll bar. the job was superb.

I probably spent $150+ doing it myself (by the time you buy the primer, paint, clearcoat, plastic to put up, etc.). It was a full cage, so it took more paint than just a bar would.

Find a local powder coating "job shop". I got mine done for $100. And put it in yourself!

But....isn't powder coating more expensive than painting, my mechanic said it'll be atleast twice as much.
