"I agree wearing a full racing suit is a good idea at all levels.

But let's face it, when a total newbie comes walking up in a full Pro Sparco racing suit you do snicker at them under your breath."

Specially when they show up on a brand new twin turbo....

That is why I'm not wearing it yet........

I found some of the Puma Speedcats locally and they felt great, and would breath very well, however the soles were too thin and I have a past ankle injury from younger open wheel days. Found these instead just by chance and they fit well and I might get some use outside the track with them. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Mine are the mid top version of those. I find them just fine. To each their own.

Btw, like Larry suggested, Sambas are also great (what I used up until this year).

anyone have a website that sells puma speed cats at a discount?

i think any thin/flat soled sneaker that is narrow in the front is fine. Plus, it seems like these shoes are in fashion now, so there is lots to choose from. Im using a pair of 'sketchers' that are fine.

I enjoy wearing my Piloti low-tops, and they were cheap. but they look like a$$ since they got rained on just once. Disappointing. Those hi-top shoes scare me; I can't see how you can bend your ankle.

Try the Sparco Rally shoes for DE. I used them all of last year. They wear well and are good for walking around at DE's. I now use Allstars which have more feel and are very confortable ... but are not for walking. I have had Piloti's and they were not particularly comfortable.

I just use plain black tennis shoes. $50 and wear for years. They provide alot of cushioning and support for running back and forth in the pits all day and work well for driving.

What you want in a driving shoe is a flat sole to stay on the pedals, fairly stiff sole to support your foot so you can brake, and heel and toe effectively, and has a very fine tread pattern so they don't catch or slip on the pedals. And given all the walking you will do in DE, great arch support is a must.

Tennis shoes fit that formula perfectly

Rob, you might want to keep and eye on ebay. I happened to take a look last night before I bought my adidas and saw a few. Type in "Puma" and you'll get more hits and then type " Puma Speedcats" which shown just 2. They were $70 at Champs and other places outside of ebay where I was looking. Colors were limited on ebay however. Nice shoe though and they should work fine.

Where else but the race track can a grown man wear green velvet shoes and be considered cool?

i agree on tennis shoes, in general, but dont use a 'hi-tech' or 'top-of-the-line' tennis shoe b/c the front part of the shoe is much wider due to the lateral support and will get stuck between pedals. A more casual tennis shoe is better .. (ive played lots of competitive tennis and unfort have looked at far too many tennis shoes)
