Default Chatterbox speaker install in Bell helmet

Hi All,
How do you install the chatterbox closed face helmet speakers under the lining? Do you have to cut the lining or can you pull it out someway. If you cut the lining, do you leave it cut or do you glue or tape it back?

Thanks,
Mark

I was able to pull the bottom of the lining up enough to stuff the cord in there (Bell Sport 2). A little cord shows (~2") between the boom mic and where the cord dives under the padding. For the speakers, I was able to run the cord from the bottom to the ear hole upward between 2 sections of the padding. Use the wooden stick included as that won't damage the lining.

I wouldn't recommend cutting the lining as I would image you void the Snell certification. Most tapes aren't heat resistant, so you wouldn't want that melting to your face.

FYI, if you are going to buy a HANS device sometime in the future (or if you already have one), mount the unit toward the front of the helmet, at least under or in front of the ear. I had to relocate my Chatterbox and move some wiring last weekend because the box would hit on the hans support when turning my head.

Mark,
The Chatterbox full face system is designed to install into the helmet over the nomex liner. I do not recomment cutting the nomex liner at all.
The ear speakers are designed to be velcroed into place. In the package with the headset are two small "hook" pieces which go onto the ear speakers. The two larger "loop" pieces are to fastened to the nomex liner by removing the brown backing tape and sticking it to the liner where your ear rests inside the helmet. The bigger piece on the liner allows for some adjustment of the speaker location. After you install the speakers then position the microphone on the chin bar slighty to one side so you don't get too much breath noise. Then use the included "popsicle" stick to tuck the wires in between the soft foam liner and the hard shell of the helmet.
I hope that helps clear things up. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at dave@ogracing.com.
Cheers

I pulled the bottom liner out enough to run the wires to the outside box, and stuff the rest between the lower and upper foam. You shouldn't need to cut anything.

I must have readjusted one too many times. The loop (velcro) that attaches to the liner easily comes off. The speakers in the helmet won't stay put when I put the helmet on. Even the mic doesn't seem that well stuck to the liner but it stays in place. Bill, I don't have any problems with the wires nor the outside box. I was able to stuff the wires under the lining. It's the round speakers. Did you attach those to lining with velcro that came with the speakers? Do they stay in place for you? I have a Bell M3 helmet.

Thanks,
Mark

As jerome951 said, pull the bottom collar out and attach the mounting bracket. As for the earpeices, mine kept coming off so I eventaully pulled the liner away from the foam below the strap and tucked the earpieces under the nomex into the proper position. Then I glued the nomex back down. Now the earpieces never move. I tried tucking them in between the foam and the shell but couldn't hear it very well.

Mark,

The velcro, for connecting to my Bell M2 helmet, has worked fine (The ear speakers displace the foam cutouts). What has come apart on me is that the velcro has separated from the ear speakers several times. I just glue the velcro back on....maybe a dab of epoxy next time.
